Stories from the Vaults: Season One

There are more than 136 million objects on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. This massive museum already boasts airplanes to elephants to the world's tiniest bible, and yet new items are added to the collection every year! This seven part series takes viewers inside the largest museum complex in the world to take a closer look at some of the more unusual items at the Smithsonian and explains how they arrived there.

These videos offer viewers a unique opportunity - an inside view at one of the most interesting places in America. Inside the vaults, you get to journey behind the scenes of a bone prep lab that utilizes thousands of giant beetles to clean the skeleton of a rhino head. You will learn which items president Theodore Roosevelt and author John Steinbeck (both major contributors) donated to the National Museum of National History section. You get the inside scoop on the oldest and weirdest artifacts that are contained here at the Smithsonian. This is just a taste of what's to come from watching these amazingly informative videos.

Narrated by and starring actor Tom Cavanagh, this series manages to be both smart and entertaining. He does a wonderful job of keeping the topics interesting with his use of humor during interviews and hands-on participation in a number of activities. If you have ever harbored an interest in the Smithsonian, this fascinating series will definitely make you start to plan your visit.
