Hooray for Fish: Candlewick Storybook Animations

Lucy Cousins

This activity pack was a smashing success with our test group. The kids couldn't get enough of the extra materials that accompanied the book. A dual sided disk offers both an audio CD to read along with the book, and a video DVD for viewing an animated version. Also included is a poster board seascape with sixteen fish stickers (the obvious way to a child's heart) provided for placement.

Interestingly, the kids found it WAY more entertaining to listen to a book coming from the CD player rather than having an adult read. Apparently there is something very satisfying about hearing the "bing" as the signal to turn each page. One of the kids suggested maybe I could make a similar noise when I read to the group. The DVD was equally popular, an excellent visual match to the book with added narration.

Extras aside, this is an excellent book on its own. Brilliantly colored fish are featured on each page - silly and clever alike. Patterned fish, numbered fish, fish of all shapes and sizes! Kids will get a kick out of pointing out the funny features of each fish, while adults will love hearing those observations. Pair these bright illustrations with a lovely rhyming text, and you have an definite winner on your hands. Add in all the extras from the activity pack and you have an absolute smash hit.
